Opening in mid-2022, this vast city celebrates two of the region's great hallmarks: gastronomy and wine traditions.

Inaugurated on May 6, 2022, the Cité Internationale de la Gastronomie et du Vin (CIGV) follows in the footsteps of a thousand-year-old tradition typical of Burgundy, where "eating well" and "living well" are emblems of the local cultural heritage. Encouraging discovery and multi-sensory experiences, the Cité is a place to learn, to enjoy and to train. It's also a showcase for the talent and dynamism of local players. For example, Éric Pras (3-star chef at Maison Lameloise in Chagny) is one of the people behind the project. He is also the culinary director of 3 of the establishments present here: the Table du Chef (gastronomic cuisine based on grands crus), the Comptoir de la Cité (local tapas to enjoy on the premises or to take away), and the Cave de la Cité (a space of over 600m2 on 3 levels offering a dizzying array of 250 wines by the glass, among over 3,000 references of the finest nectars from around the world).

A transformed site

Spread over some 6.5 hectares, the Cité Internationale de la Gastronomie et du Vin required a colossal 5 years of construction work, and bears witness to a long history, since from 1204 to 2015, it was the site of Dijon's former general hospital. A blend of tradition and modernity, it offers a breathtaking second life to these buildings, erected between the 15th and 18th centuries, on the banks of the Ouche River. Here, you'll discover 1,750m2 of exhibition space dedicated to the gastronomic meal of the French, which in 2010 was included in the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity along with the Climats of Burgundy wines, also a World Heritage Site and widely promoted here. What's more, a pedestrian trail links the Cité to the nearby train station and historic center, as well as to the prestigious Route des Grands Crus. Last but not least, the CIGV not only contributes to the city's economic and tourist appeal, it also revitalizes an entire eco-neighborhood of 500 new homes and three serviced residences.

A place for training and multi-sensory experiences

Here, visitors are offered an extraordinary experience. These include numerous exhibitions, the Ferrandi Paris cookery school and the Burgundy wine school, as well as a range of shops, the Village Gastronomique event kitchen and a variety of restaurants. Not to mention the Pathé cinema, 3 hotels, Village by CA, Vitagora and Foodtech Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. In any case, Bacchus will be present throughout your visit, as wine is celebrated everywhere, and in all its forms. And let's not forget that the Cité also offers a very pleasant setting in a wooded, listed setting. You can even admire Dijon's oldest tree!

Wine heritage

In short, the Cité Internationale de la Gastronomie et du Vin is a symbol of Burgundy's winegrowing heritage. According to Unesco, "Dijon's historic center embodies the political impetus given to the formation of the Climats du vignoble de Bourgogne system". In this way, the Dijon metropolis is drawing on its rich history to build for the future, with over 300 ha still in the process of being acquired. After the transfer here (in October 2021) of the headquarters of the International Organization of Vine and Wine, the city is set to further enhance its role as a global showcase for the world's wine heritage. The Cité internationale de la gastronomie et du vin will showcase the Climats region with an interpretation center in the former chapel of the Hôpital Général. Above all, it is an indispensable stopover, and even kilometer zero, on the Route des Grands Crus, the veritable Champs-Élysées of Burgundy's vineyards: 37 villages to discover, and dazzling hillsides as far as the eye can see.

Awaken your senses

At Dijon's Cité Internationale de la Gastronomie et du Vin, all the senses are engaged. Even before you open the doors, the architecture of the site is striking in its originality and beauty. Wine tastings enhance the senses of smell and taste, as do the site's restaurants and brasseries. Throughout the exhibitions, the little ones will delight in touching certain elements, while the grown-ups will listen to their imaginations. And then there's your sense of hearing, guided by the laughter of children and the amazement of visitors who, after their discovery, will be tempted by a film or plunge into history at 1204, the architecture and heritage interpretation center. In short, in this exceptional setting, a veritable historical jewel, the Cité truly offers a future for a historic site.

There's always something going on at the Cité!

The slogan doesn't lie: in 2025, there's always something going on, thanks to a diversified program for all ages. Several food and wine and cheese and wine pairing events highlight local produce. Discover how the Manufacture de Longchamp creates the tableware that goes so well with Burgundian products. Observe the development of a vine over the course of the seasons, or discover the world's gastronomy.

Bravo
