It's not the most famous or fashionable place in the country. It's a shame, though, as it offers a fine example of the development of Korean tourist activities, with a railway village from which you can board a steam train, as well as well-concentrated and well-presented historical sites (notably a few small temples right next to the station, and above all a hiking trail in the surrounding mountains). Every year, the town also hosts a charming rose festival. The town is very close to Gwangju (which offers much better hotel facilities), so we don't need to spend a night there. A little anecdote about the town: women are said to be jealous of the ayu fish in the Seomjingang River, because of their slim bodies and red lips.
