1,601,450 inhabitants, over 2 million with its conurbation. This large industrial city in Tamil Nadu, also known as Kovai, has an airport and can be used as a gateway to the Western Ghats. It is of little tourist interest, but is a major rail and road junction. It is world-famous for housing the gigantic ashram complex of the famous Sadhguru, the Isha Foundation. Here, meditation and yoga courses are offered, as well as spiritual retreats. This complex is also home to the imposing Adiyogi statue of Shiva's bust.
