population: 9,220. This gram panchayat (village with a local government) boasts the largest waterfalls in Kerala: Athirappaly Falls. Many Bollywood productions are filmed here to take advantage of the breathtaking natural scenery. The waterfalls are at their most impressive during and after the monsoon season. The view from the top of the falls is spectacular. Nearby, the Vazhachal Falls, which are more like rapids, are also worth a visit. They are less impressive, however, so we recommend you start your visit here.
