The town is also a gateway to Silent Valley National Park, a nature reserve in the Nilgiris biosphere. The Parambikulam Tiger Reserve, on the border with Tamil Nadu, is one of the state's most beautiful national parks. Located around 75 km from Palakkad, it is home to a rich variety of wildlife and lush vegetation, with forests of teak, rosewood and sandalwood trees.
