This small town of just over 1,000 is located on Roanoke Island, which is the gateway to the Outer Banks. The most convenient is to get there by car, with the nearest airports far enough, in Raleigh, the state capital, or in Norfolk, Virginia. It is on this island that you will find the Outer Banks Tourist Board. Manteo is a beautiful seaside town lined with coffees, souvenir shops and maritime equipment. Don't miss George Washington Creef Park and plan to walk along the water, including the bay that houses the Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse and along the Waterfront. Manteo attractions include the Roanoke Island Maritime Museum, the North Carolina Aquarium (Roanoke Island), Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, and the Roanoke Island Festival Park.
