Mcsherrystown is located 80 kilometres south of Washington D.C. and 87 kilometres north of Richmond. Created in 1728, it was named in honour of Frederick, Prince of Wales, son of King George II. This is not far from the quiet little town of George Washington's mother and sister, as well as the 5 th American president James Monroe (1758-1831).Halfway between the capitals of the two opposing camps, Mcsherrystown had no fewer than four battles during the war of Secession. In December 1862, at the Bataille battle, the city was bombed and fell into the hands of the Union.
