Just a few steps from the mouth of Potomac River, just before it was set up in Chesapeake Bay, a few miles south of the small seaside town of Colonial Beach, which had its hour of glory in the first half of the th century, George Washington was born first President of the United States of America. The site is now protected by the National Park Service and is named George Washington Birthplace National Monument. It is in this area and in this house built by his grandfather that he saw the day, February 22, 1732. He lived there until the age of 3, and returned to adolescence. It is a typical farm of the th century plantations. Its garden and its dependencies were perfectly maintained in the aspect that was to be theirs, when young Washington grew up there. The main building was transformed into a museum dedicated to the national hero.
