Great Falls Park (managed by the National Park Service) is a popular place for the residents of D.C. and surrounding suburbs for a picnic on Sundays, long walk or family biking in a beautiful setting, on the edge of the Rapides River rapids and waterfalls. Its protection area surrounds the Potomac River and its falls (Great Falls of the Potomac River). We will also see the remains of the Patowmack Canal, the country's first lock canal, designed to bypass Potomac's rapids in the early hours of American history. The park has more than 800 ha, including nearly 25 km of trails accessible to hikers, riders and cyclists. An ideal getaway for a break in the tours and museums of D.C. Avoid if possible to go on the weekend in summer, there is a queue to get there!
