About 27,000 inhabitants. Čadca is a small border town of Poland and the Czech Republic located on the Kysuca River, 30 km from Žilina. It took a long time to structure itself, and received town privileges and the right to a fair in 1790. During the revolutionary period of 1848, the town was a stronghold of Slovak independence fighters, including the famous Ľudovít Štúr. Occupied by imperial forces, it was from here that the Slovak National Council issued an appeal against Hungarian oppression. Today, it has no particular beauty, but it does have a certain charm. The ski resort Snow Paradise is famous in the region.
