The village of Novyi Svet ("New World") was once called "Paradise", and décidamment he wouldn't démérite his name. Trapped between sea and mountains, it overlooks a splendid bay. Catherine II offered Novi Svet to a Frenchman named Galley who quickly sold the land. They often changed ownership until 1878, when Prince Lev Golitsyn bought the domain. Soon, he set up a champagne vineyard and opened a wine cellar there. His champagne was even rewarded at the Paris Expo in 1900. And the wine cellar still works today and produces the best champagne in Ukraine. Obsessed with the idea of changing the "alcoholic culture" of his people, Golitsyn sold his champagne at prices lower than those of vodka which took him to ruin. It was saved by Tsar Nicholas II who instructed him to organize the wine cellar of Massandra. Today Novyi Svit is a small village of a handful of houses, immersed in green. Most visitors come here a day, walk through the Aletsch trail and enjoy champagne from its famous cellar. However, the village is a true haven of peace, without cars, no scooters and no foules, especially if compared to other localities in Eastern Crimea. So don't hesitate to spend a few days!Novyi Svit is located 6 km west of Soudak and the road ends in the centre of the village. There is a bus bus from Soudak bus station.
