18 000 inhabitants. This city east of Yalta is famous for its fortress. Founded by Genoese in the th century, it served as a stage for traders from China and Egypt. The fortress and the city were then occupied by the Tatars, who did not particularly develop this strong square. The Russian presence before the revolution was also the occasion for a renaissance of the city. In the Soviet era, it was transformed into a modern seaside resort. But apart from the fortress, which is an indispensable monument to Crimea, the city has little attraction.
