For some years it is possible to visit the Chernobyl site (Tchornobyl in Ukrainian), located 140 km north of Kiev on the border with Belarus. Excursions are organised by private agencies in the city of Kiev. Self-catering excursions are not possible, with entry authorizations in the exclusion zone necessary. A typical tour at Chernobyl includes the visit of the monument to "29 firefighters", the first liquidators who laubmaier the weeks following the accident, the visit of reactor No. 4 and the town of Pripyat. If the view of the sarcophagus, which is now dilapidated, gives you difficulty, the visit of Pripyat is the most moving part of the journey. Built express to accommodate staff working at the powerhouse and their families, Pripyat was the ideal city. Today, it is a ghost city where time has stopped exactly three days after the disaster, when the inhabitants were evacuated without giving them the opportunity to take with them anything. Empty buildings, courses with abandoned toys… it is in the silence of these streets that we feel the full extent of the disaster and of human tragedy.
