This city located 140 km from Kiev is a real jewel that deserves a day trip when you spend at least a week in Kiev. At the time of the conversion of Kiev's Russia to Christianity, Chernihiv was an economic and cultural centre of similar importance in Kiev and there is a first mention of its existence as early as 907. From this golden age, which lasted from the 10th to the 12th century, several churches have been preserved, as well as a series of caves in which the first Chernihiv monks lived. The city was partly destroyed by the Tartars in the 13th century and written sources on the lost local princes. Beyond its great historical and cultural value, Chernihiv is also a very pleasant city where you can spend a day in total relaxation, on the banks of the Desna River.
