It is the heart of the city. There are two churches there. The Church of St Catherine (Катерининська церква) was built at the beginning of the 18th century in the style of Ukrainian Baroque. Not far away, inside the Bogdan Khmelnitski garden, you can see the Paraskevy Piatnytsi church (церква Параскеви Параскеви П' ятниці). Built in the 12th and 13th centuries, it bears the name of the holy protector of commerce. Two-thirds of the church was destroyed during the Second World War.
