A small tourist town stretching along the rail line where the famous Trans-Canada Railway passes through, Jasper has been a major railroad center since the turn of the century and is named after Jasper Hawes, an employee of the North West Company, who lived in the early 19th century. At first glance, Jasper seems to be Banff's twin sister, but it is calmer and more serene, more summer than winter, nestled at the entrance to Alberta and its endless plains, and a few hours drive from Edmonton... Living in harmony with its park, Jasper is visited by many animals, little disturbed by civilization.
