One of the battles of the Anglo-American War was fought here. Loyalists settled here in the first half of the 19th century. In the 1950s, the community was in the news when the construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway flooded part of Morrisburg. More than 80 homes were relocated, the entire downtown area was razed before being rebuilt elsewhere, and the CNR railway was moved 1.1 km further north. Today, Morrisburg is best known for its main attraction, Upper Canada Village.
