The house where René Descartes lived around 1640, which can be admired from the outside in Leiden

If France prides itself on being the country of the Enlightenment, let us never forget that it was in the Netherlands that great thinkers and theologians found refuge at a time when it was not so easy to think freely and especially to publish freely. René Descartes lived in this house around 1640 and it is a house that cannot be visited, but can be admired from the outside. A plaque indicates the illustrious inhabitant. The Rapenburg was once considered the most beautiful street in the Netherlands. The building was recently sold for a very nice sum.
