Perfect example of Renaissance architecture by Lieven de Key, one of the most famous architects of the Golden Age
A perfect example of 17th century architecture, this building was destroyed in 1929 by a terrible fire. Only the façade is still remarkable. On each side of the staircase are poems from the 17th century recalling the siege of the city in 1574 and its liberation. It is located between the famous Breestraat and the Vismarkt, where the fish market was once held. It is a perfect example of the Renaissance style, the work of Lieven de Key, probably one of the most renowned architects of the Golden Age. There is a restaurant on site.
