Small village lost on the north coast of the island, away from the modern world. From Lamu town, you can get there by foot (2 hours), donkey, dhow or speed boat. The village is famous for its dhow yard, which workers continue to build and repair using the techniques of their ancestors. However, with the arrival of motors and the near disappearance of large dhows, construction is now limited to fishing boats. Visiting the surrounding villages (Shela, Kipungani, Matondoni) is usually part of the excursions offered by the hotels. Matondoni is also known for its handicraft (weaving)
