In the very north of the country, along the border with Somalia, two national reserves and a marine park were created in the late 1970s. These are animal sanctuaries with a rich and original fauna. Unfortunately, they too are difficult to access for both infrastructure and security reasons. The instability that reigns in Somalia does not help matters. Kiwayu Island, located 10 km north of Pate Island, is the only place where you can go if you have the means. It is an exceptional and wild place. A paradise of unspoiled nature. The island is accessible only by boat.
