PRIEURÉ DE SAINTE-GAUBURGE
Gothic Priory with Renaissance decor dedicated to Saint Gauburge (or Walburge)
Founded in 1006 by the Lords of Bellême, then a former dependency of the Abbey of St-Denis, the priory is dedicated to Saint Gauburge (or Walburge), daughter of King Richard of England and abbess of the Bavarian monastery of Heidenheim. The church's Gothic nave and choir are lit by high bays. The Renaissance-decorated buildings include a dormitory and the prior's dwelling, featuring two fireplaces with historiated mantels. The ticket is combined with a visit to the Ecomuseum.
