Remains of Domfront's feudal castle, featuring a vast castral enclosure with a keep, sections of wall, ramparts...

All that remains are the ruins of the castle built in the 11th century by the Dukes of Bellême on a spur of Armorican sandstone. Sully, Henri IV's minister, ordered its dismantling in 1610. The remarkable remains of this former stronghold include the keep, the chapel of the Saint-Symphorien priory with its unique buttress-columns dating from 1100-1120, the "aula" (large reception hall) to the west of the keep and the ramparts with their curtain wall. The setting is ideal for a break in the park or a stroll along a steep path.

Eh oui il ne reste que des ruines, mais vraiment bien mis en valeur et ce trônant dans l'enceinte d'un parc paysager remarquablement entretenu et fleuri. Nombre de panneaux explicatifs en français et anglais rendant votre cheminement de visite très intéressant, un magnifique panorama aussi à ne pas manquer!
