The most imposing construction of the site, a pyramid of seven levels built during the ancient classic.
The Nohoch Mul ("great mound" in Maya) is the most imposing construction of the site. This seven-level, 42-meter-high pyramid was built during the Early Classic period (200-600 AD) as a temple and mausoleum for the ruling dynasties. The temple at the top built in the Late Postclassic (1200-1550), corresponds to the architectural style of the coast of the period. One can see there a sculpture of the descending God, a deity venerated on other sites of the coast. Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to access the summit for security reasons.
