In the middle of the cocoa land, Comalcalco is a Mayan site that was probably linked to Palenque, after the decline of the Olmec civilization. In the classical period (between 200 and 900), it was probably the most western point of the Maya civilization, an important relay on the commercial routes of Mesoamerica. The particularity of this site is the use of shells and bricks to compensate for the lack of stones. The visit is pleasant and you can admire some very interesting stucco figures. Established on small hills, this site is worth a visit as much for its architectural remains as for its natural context.
