174 km north of Puebla (4 hours drive), the village of Cuetzalán's colonial architecture is one of the most beautiful in the region: Paved streets, white houses with terracotta tiles, often bathed in haze. Located in the heart of the Sierra Norte Oriental and surrounded by lush tropical vegetation, and its inhabitants have managed to preserve some of the traditions inherited from their totonic ancestors and then nahuatl, and perpetuate Danza de los Quetzales or that of the Voladores. This attachment to the roots is found by the ever-strong traditional tradition, essentially textile. At 7 km from Cuetzalán you will find an interesting archeological site (Yohualichan), witness to the cultural syncretism of this horse-riding area between the cultures of the center of the country and those of the Gulf of Mexico (the village is as close to Puebla as Xalapa, in the state of Veracruz). In addition to its perennial cultural treasures, Cuetzalán is an ideal stopover if you want to discover the beauty of rural Mexico, between caves to explore and majestic stunts.
