In the Nacacamilpa region, the Fireflies Sanctuary (and yes, these small flying insects that shine intensely at night) is to be visited between mid-June and August. This 600-hectare reserve of coniferous forest (2,800 metres above sea level) offers perfect climatic conditions for the reproduction of these small animals; only 20 hectares of the reserve are open to visitors. Visits take place at nightfall, when hundreds of fireflies light up the forest. A very nice show to discover with the family, preferably during the week and before the school holidays which start the first week of July.
