At 5 hours from Xalapa, here is "the city that perfumes the world". The Mexican capital of vanilla offers all the products made from the bean: syrups, liqueurs, ice creams, cakes and even miniature toys! The road leading to it is winding but the landscapes are beautiful, taking you from semi-arid to almost equatorial vegetation. The small provincial town is built around the Zócalo. A large church overlooks the beautifully landscaped central square; music is played there on Sundays from 2 pm. About ten kilometers from the city is the beautiful archaeological site of El Tajín, the most important ceremonial center of Totonocapan, the land of the Totonaques.
