This cave site is particularly impressive. The park covers 117 caves and extends over the Chihuahua Desert in southeastern New Mexico. The main site to visit is Carlsbad Cavern itself, which has been set up for tours. This cave contains several majestic rooms. Most notably, there is the Big Room, an underground sandstone chamber 1,220 m long, 191 m wide and 78 m high. It is the third largest in the United States and the seventh largest in the world. It contains the Underground Lunchroom, a cafeteria, at 250 m depth. An elevator has been built to go down there.
