Beaufort (pronounced «Biaufort») is a charming small colonial town located on Port Royal Island, 70 miles southwest of Charleston and 40 miles from Georgia and Savannah. Founded in 1711, it is the second oldest city of the state, after Charleston. You will find a real concentrate from the South: Victorian houses and houses Antebellum, oaks flooded by Spanish moss, swamps and white sandy beaches. A scent of authenticity floats on the premises. So it is no coincidence that many of the time films have been filmed there. Every year, in May, the Gullah Festival is held in the city.
