If few people take time to stop in the capital of South Carolina, it is because Columbia is a very quiet city, which does not wave. It even has a reputation as one of the most pleasant cities in the United States to retire. Nothing very sweet, therefore, but rather rare serenity in other major cities in the region. Crossed by Sherman's unionist troops while walking to the ocean, Columbia was almost completely burned in 1865. From its ashes, Columbia became increasingly active towards the end of the nineteenth century. In the near geographic center of South Carolina, it quickly became an important agglomeration. Today Columbia rehabilitates its downtown and retains the charm of small university cities. The campus is a pleasant place to go.The gastronomic and commercial activity of downtwon is mainly located at the Vista level between Assembly St and Huger St. Devine Street (between King St and Sims Avenue) and Main Street (between Gervais St. and Laurel St), which also focuses on a significant number of bars and restaurants, as well as the South Point, a popular area of the night.
