With a population of more than 850,000, Charlotte is the largest city in North Carolina. Nicknamed "Queen City" in honour of Queen Charlotte, wife of George III of the United Kingdom, Charlotte proudly displays the crown symbol on street signs or proudly placards on city T-shirts. Its history dates back to 1799 with the country's first documented discovery of gold. A significant quantity that has made the region rich and led the first bank to settle in Charlotte. Later, it was the cotton industry that made it a very important financial centre for many banks. It was here that the famous Bank of America was born, at the time known as the NCNB. The East Coast headquarters of the famous Wells Fargo is also located in Charlotte which is the 3rd largest banking city in the United States since San Francisco stole its second place behind New York.Charlotte is also home to the famous South Bojangles' fast-food restaurant chain and the Family Dollar chain. You will also notice that many museums and streets are named after Levine, the family that created the sign. But in addition to its status as a major business city, Charlotte is also a dynamic urban area that brings together many museums and an intense nightlife from nightfall. Night owls replace bankers and other businessmen (who may be the same people by the way), filling concert halls, bars and restaurants around N Tryon Street. While the centre is mainly concentrated in the Uptown area, a neighbourhood on a human scale, it contains all the components of a large city, starting with high-rise buildings. But what is fascinating is that there is a whole universe to discover behind the door of the glass towers, starting with pretty outdoor squares, but also indoor squares that often accommodate benches, tables and chairs, or even food courts (grouping of restaurants), often located in huge glass atriums. The most famous skyscrapers are probably the Wells Fargo buildings, which are distinguished by their number: 1, 2 and 3. Most buildings are connected by a network of walkways and long corridors filled with restaurants and shops known as Overstreet Mall (literally meaning shopping centre above the streets). A very local and rather confidential place, not always easy to access. Finally, it is impossible to talk about Charlotte without mentioning her sports teams, the famous Carolina Panthers, a professional American football league team and the Charlotte Hornets, an NBA basketball team owned by the legendary Michael Jordan. If you walk around Tryon Street, you can see the building where he lives, the Trust Building, located at the intersection of E 4th Street. Charlotte is also of course the NASCAR races that take place three times a year and whose universe you can discover at the Hall of Fame or through a visit to the tracks at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. You will have understood it, so there is plenty to do in Charlotte whether you are just stopping by from her international airport, which ranks among the largest in the country, or visiting the surrounding area. And if you are familiar with the movie Hunger Games and some of Charlotte's sites talk to you, it's normal since some scenes from the first part were shot there, notably at the Knight Theater.
