The administrative center of an agricultural and mining region, Chinhoyi is known to all Zimbabweans for the battle that took place there on April 28, 1966 between men of the Zimbabwe African National Liberation Army (ZANLA) and Rhodesian forces. This battle was the beginning of the Second Chimurenga, which led to the country's independence. The town of Chinhoyi (or rather its surroundings) is also worth a visit for the small national park containing a cave system. The Chinhoyi bus station is located next to the municipal stadium south of the city center. From there, chicken buses leave regularly for Harare, Kariba and Chirundu.
