42 km southeast of Las Vegas, Boulder City is the only city in Nevada where gambling is prohibited. Built to house the thousands of workers hired to build the Hoover Dam from 1933 to 1947, it is now known to tourists for its municipal airport, from which some companies specializing in flying over the region operate. Grand Canyon Scenic Airlines - www.grandcanyonairlines.com - is a historic company, originally founded as a charter service in 1927. Nearly a century later, it is the oldest tour operator still in business.
