De Moriaan, built in the 13th century, was part of the old wall that surrounded the market place
Built in the 13th century, De Moriaan is the oldest brick house in the city and was part of the old wall that surrounded the market place. This historic house used to be the location of the tourist office (VVV) and a café in the basement. This building is said to be the oldest stone building in the Netherlands and this alone is worth a visit. It was renovated in the 1960s. In the basement, wooden beams are still visible. The façade probably dates from the 14th century. In a word, superb.
