BAUHAUS
This school building, in which the most prestigious teachers taught, now houses a museum dedicated to the movement.
The famous Bauhaus School building, built in 1925, is located in the middle of a quiet, tree-lined avenue. Until 1932, the most prestigious professors: Kandinsky, Klee, Moholy-Nagy, Gropius, Schlemmer, etc., taught all artistic disciplines, making the Bauhaus the founding place of a conception of modernity. From here radiated the development of Bauhaus architecture and design, which would take Dessau as a guinea pig. The building now houses a museum dedicated to the movement. It is very well done and has an interesting exhibition retracing the history of the movement and presenting works by those who taught there. Also temporary exhibitions of contemporary art, architecture and design, as well as retrospectives. The school still lives through international courses and seminars. Beautiful café in the basement, open Monday to Friday from 8am to midnight, Saturday from 10am to 1am and Sunday from 10am to 10pm
A new Bauhaus museum is under construction. The new building will open in September 2019. This site will present the second most important collection of works from this famous artistic movement. It marks the commemoration of the centenary of the Bauhaus School, founded in 1919.
The future museum will specialize in the history of the architectural movement and its originality.
