Leova is a former centre of trade located on the banks of the Prut river, whose history began around the 15th century. One of the most important buildings in the town is the church of Sainte-Parascève, built in 1818. Most of the inhabitants are Moldavians and live in good relations with the other minorities present such as Russians, Bulgarians and Gagauz. It is a nice little stop on the way to Cahul: you can see some nice churches in the surroundings, a nice museum, a wine factory and a famous restaurant. Every day, between 8 am and 1 pm, the market in the city centre sells fresh local products.
