Chişinău, "the city of the seven hills", Chişinău "the white city", Chişinău "the green city", as much as apellations, which truly characterizes the image of this capital, which is surprising by its contrasts, between tradition and modernity, which is seduced by its sweetness of life, and which is shaken by efforts to become the modern capital of a European country. We enter Chişinău as we are among the Moldovans, because the city is concentrating in its own sense and in the history of the country and information about the origins of its people. The Moldovan capital in the centre of the country is surrounded by a relatively flat landscape with a very fertile soil. The city itself extends over seven hills, representing 120 km 2, and the river Bîc (a tributary of the Dniester River) and Isnovăţ cross the river. It is the most important city in the country, an economic, industrial, administrative, political and cultural centre. The fertile soil of the region has allowed vine and fruit cultivation since medieval times, this tradition continues in the vicinity of Chişinău, especially with the famous wine factories, which are one of the most remarkable, impressive and truly unforgettable tourist attractions.Chişinău is the most economically prosperous locality in Moldova, with an industrial centre and above all services. The main industries produce consumer goods, construction materials, machinery, plastics, rubber and textiles. The areas of the most represented services are banks and shopping centres. A relatively living and well-stocked capital, it has a much higher standard of living than most rural areas in the rest of the country. As everything is concentrated in the centre, Chişinău is very easy to explore, what joy to walk and discover a capital, on foot… Take its time, walk under the trees, walk in the parks, visit the few museums and churches, enjoy the many terraces, it is a city that is definitely very easy to live and very relaxing for us tourists. Finally, don't worry that nothing happens, Moldovans love festivals, music, concerts, and above all come out among friends and find themselves in a group in the city's countless bars or clubs. The spring season is the most pleasant, it offers an incomparable sweetness of life. However, despite its unquestionable charms, Chişinău, the capital of a Moldova with no claim, concentrates the contradictions of this small country. An astonishing mixture of Romanian and Russian identities, this capital finally resembles the appearance of a provincial city presents straight and austere avenues that give without transition on small tree-lined tree streets with low houses, or more colorful corners and living areas such as the market quarter. The result: urban planning plans and models of Soviet architecture alongside Romantico-Gothic eclecticism of the th century. Along the boulevard Stefan cel Mare, works by Bernardazzi, the famous architect of the city, confront McDonald's on the opposite side… The remains of the past, whether they come from the former USSR or the th century, are more or less well preserved. It must be said that the city has repeatedly devastated, disfigured and rebuilt over the centuries, having regard to the vagaries of its complicated history, wars, regime changes and natural disasters. In outlying areas, Soviet-style blocks of habitation dominate the urban landscape. In the past and for a long time, Chişinău has perhaps kept huge green areas, including four large parks with over lakes distributed there. The parks make the Moldovans happy in all seasons, but are particularly appreciated during summer during the hot weather. Chişinău is thus regarded as one of the greenest cities in Europe, adds to this that trees grow there in almost every street and that Moldovans love planting flowers and have the slightest end of garden. For a little freshness, go to the shores of Lake Valea Morilor, which offer suitable beaches for tanning, bathing and recreational canoeing. Furthermore, if you want to explore the wonders of Moldovan flora, take a tour to the botanical garden in the south of the city.
