Read moreThe Triumphal Arch was built between 1840 and 1841 by the architect Luca Zaușkevici, in memory of the Russian victory over the Turkish army in 1829. The arch is 13 m high, its four pillars are in Corinthian style and the upper level is in neoclassical style. The pediment is surmounted by a mechanical clock illuminated at night. Until 2011 a 6,400 kg bell was installed there, originally intended for the cathedral bell tower and was cast from Turkish cannons.
