The Triumphal Arch was built between 1840 and 1841 by the architect Luca Zaușkevici, in memory of the Russian victory over the Turkish army in 1829. The arch is 13 m high, its four pillars are in Corinthian style and the upper level is in neoclassical style. The pediment is surmounted by a mechanical clock illuminated at night. Until 2011 a 6,400 kg bell was installed there, originally intended for the cathedral bell tower and was cast from Turkish cannons.

Pour comprendre son implantation et l'urbanisme de Chisinau, rien ne vaut d'aller visiter la maison d'enfance et musée Şciusev (10 lei, une dépendance du musée d'histoire et d'archéologie), Strada Alexei Şciusev 77 : Alexei Şciusev est l'architecte des Tsar qui a conçu le plan d'urbanisme du centre-ville, mais aussi l'architecte soviétique du mausolée de Lénine à Moscou.

L'appellation Arc de Triomphe est un peu usurpée, tant il est petit.
De plus il est situé en bordure de l'avenue principale et semble avoir été posé là par hasard. Bref, on passe devant on prend une photo éventuellement et on continue son chemin ...
