Ranomafana is a small village of about 20,000 souls, nestled in a green and humid valley (it rains a lot during the rainy season and then showers at the end of the day in July/August, but a good surprise is not to be excluded!): an ideal site for rereading One Hundred Years of Solitude, by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, as the atmosphere and the rain evoke the Colombian forest and the mythical village of Macondo. Ranomafana ("hot water") was famous in the time of the colony for its hot thermal waters which can still be enjoyed, but it is especially the national park that attracts visitors today. A very pleasant break!
