Located in the heart of the Western Canadian vineyard (the Golden Mile is south of town), Oliver was a welcoming place for soldiers returning from the First World War. There are many orchards and roadside fruit vendors. Its 4,500 residents don't live for water sports or big resorts, but take great care of their vineyards, which are more discreet than some of the Golden Mile wineries. Known as the "wine capital" of Canada, the city has the largest concentration of vineyards in British Columbia. Indulge in its wines when you visit!
