Live the adventure, such is the motto of Port Hardy. The last town on the Island Highway, Port Hardy is gradually abandoning its traditional economy, based on forestry, fishing and mining, to turn more and more to tourism and outdoor activities (hiking, kayaking). As the departure point for the ferry to Prince Rupert, the village fills up with tourists on the eve of departure from the island. With a history dating back over 8,000 years, the Kwagu'l, Gwa'Sala-'Nakwaxda'xw and Quatsino First Nations were the pioneers of this blessed land. Their heritage is told through the art and totem poles of the city.
