Located about 20 miles west of Dallas, Grand Prairie is home to about 190,000 residents. It is a place often chosen by the residents of "Big D" or Fort Worth, who like to come here on weekends to enjoy its flea market or other attractions. Grand Prairie's name does not seem to have anything to do with the history of France or any other French-speaking nation. The city is bordered by Dallas to the east, Cedar Hill and Midlothian to the southeast, Mansfield to the southwest, Arlington to the west, Fort Worth to the northwest and Irving to the north. Nearby is Cedar Hill State Park, a wooded park with water features.
