Attached to the community of Pineville and located just south of the Kisatchie National Forest, Alexandria is the center of the Crossroads region and the geographic heart of Louisiana. In 1805, Alexander Fulton, a wealthy landowner and merchant, settled along the Red River, divided the land into lots and gave birth to the town. Rich and prosperous until the middle of the 19th century, it was devastated and burned during the Civil War. The city has changed since then, attracting many visitors who come to enjoy its museums, historical sites and plantations, as well as good places to eat and drink until they are thirsty.
