Maceio is the capital of the state of Alagoas, with 1,100,000 inhabitants. In general, the centres of the big capitals, especially those of the Nordeste, are often full of history and have a few surprises in store for visitors, such as an old church or a historic district. This is not the case in Maceió. On the other hand, the seaside of the region has a charm that is reminiscent of Ipanema, Leblon or Copacabana, all things considered of course. And in this part of the country, the blue and green waters of the sea are undeniably reminiscent of the Caribbean. The coastline between Maceió and Maragogi is known as the Coral Coast.
