150 km south of Porto Seguro (860 km from Salvador), a peaceful town of about 20,000 inhabitants. It is the obligatory point of passage to discover the park of Abrolhos. Two peaks of affluence: during the summer holidays (December to February), then between June and September (to see the humpback whales up close). The charming little historical centre is made up of colonial style buildings from the 19th century, and art nouveau style houses can be found in the streets Sete de Setembro and Barão do Rio Branco. The churches, such as the Matriz de Santo Antônio, built in 1725 in the Portuguese colonial style, are elegant.
