A cultural, administrative and economic capital of Idaho, Boise is called the City of the Trees. The Franco-Canadian trappers who discovered the city exclaimed: The Woods! The Woods! '. Located near the Rocky Mountains, it extends to the heart of a region of forests traversed by rivers. The city is itself crossing the Boise River, a tributary of the famous Snake River. Boise mainly lives in agriculture and sheep farming. It is one of the largest wool centers in the United States. This explains that Basque shepherds have immigrated to the region and that an important colony has settled in Boise, retaining its folk dances and traditions that it brings back every summer at a festival. A military post founded in 1863 on Oregon Trail, Boise became Idaho's undisputed capital thanks to the richness of its basement: gold and silver mines made fortune for adventurers. The many ghost towns in the surrounding area testify to this. Today, mining is still important, especially the extraction of lead, zinc and phosphate. Boise is also the main cultural center of the south of the state with State University that gives it this relaxed charm of university cities.Located along the road axis connecting the west end of Yellowstone National Park (West Yellowstone) to the city of Ontario at the eastern end of Oregon, it is an excellent step on the road crossing the southern part of Idaho. But Boise is also developing a "cool" destination image that attracts nature enthusiasts with its green walk in the heart of the city along the Boise River Greenbelt, its dynamic university and its original festivals. Examples include the Treefort Music Festival and the festival of artisanal beers and Punk in Drublic music.
