Astoria is the northwest entrance to Oregon State, when you come from Washington. It is highly recommended that you enter or leave the city via the Hwy 101 Bridge, which appears to be brushing the water of the Columbia River as close as possible. The journey is beautiful. It was in the vicinity of the city that the Lewis and Clark expedition (1804-1806) set up its most westerly camp, Fort Clatsop. But the city was founded in 1811 and owes its name to John Jacob Astor, the first American to develop the site by creating a fur trading post.Chinese, Italian and Scandinavian immigrants were employed in sawmills, shipyards and canning factories. At the beginning of the 20th century, prosperity was assured. Today, even though many factories are closed, Astoria is an active port city that has taken advantage of its geographical location. However, tourism is the city's main economic activity. We will climb up the Astoria column, perched on Coxcomb Hill, for a panoramic view of the bay. The main street, Commercial Street, has a few friendly cafes and bars. For the anecdote, Astoria is also known as the location for Goonies, this film from the 1980s with adventurous teenagers, you can visit their house by appointment, located at the corner of 38th and Duane Streets. The films Save Willy, The Road and Into the Wild were also shot in Astoria and Warrenton.
