Colonsay deserves to be known for its rocky landscapes and soft attractive beaches. Its name is said to come from Saint Colomba, who stopped there on his way to Iona. Approaching it by ferry, one would almost think it was a meteorite, so much its reliefs are lunar and mineral. This is without counting on its green interior, covered with flowers and meadows. If the low tide allows it (check the schedule), treat yourself to a walk to the small neighboring island of Oronsay, where you can see the ruins of a 14th century abbey. For plant lovers, Colonsay House Gardens has some very rare species of rhododendron. Beer drinkers should also enjoy the products of the Colonsay Brewery.
